It started like many others. I took a shower, got dressed, and got a banana and nutrition bar as we drove to Sophie's game at Perimeter. I ate on the way. We parked a little farther away from the building this time, not finding a good parking spot. It was Uncle Jeff's birthday, and he was coaching the team, so we wanted to see the whole full game, to be nice to both of them, Sophie and Jeff. We got into the gym the same way we did before, except this time you didn't have to pay. The court was the same except it was divided in two by a thick piece of material which was also see-through. Sophie was on the opposite side of the gym. We passed over there, seeing Pop and MaPoc (MaPoc is not very tired anymore) and we sat by them. This was to be Sophie's first game, so we were excited to see her play. Then Olivia and Aunt Tami came over. I talked to Olivia about the game, and we talked of different stuff. I talked to Tami about a book she's reading about Eve, filled with the most intense detail as no one would ever imagine. We talked about that for a while. Madalyn and Caroline came over and sat beneath Rebecca, Olivia and Me, Pop, MaPoc, Mom, and Aunt Tami over us. We were perfectly content on these bleachers. As the game started, Sophie played pretty well. Ironically, she was on the blue team and Pisgah white, where as when Olivia played she was white and the other team blue. Jeff did some pretty awesome coaching, and I talked to Caroline and Madalyn a little about school. Another thing completely the opposite of Olivia's game, was that Sophie's team won 19-18, by one point, whereas Olivia lost 34-33, by one point. Funny really.
We congratulated Sophie and told Jeff happy birthday as we all headed out. We decided to meet, as we went upstairs to the big lobby, at a bagel shop called B.B.'s (Bronx Bagels.) Pop and MaPoc went alone, Tami and Jeff together, Mom, Rebecca and Sophie with her, me going with Olivia, Caroline and Madalyn. We listened to Christmas music and talked as we talked of what gifts we wanted. I want some things a little, but I do not need anything at all, and if it was impossible to get those things, I would be okay. A phone for Olivia, that's what she wanted. We talked as I looked at a brown chocolate round cake with the words in green frosting: Happy Birthday Jeff. There were five colored stars, for his fifty two years, and the cake was almost cut in half, only having a little part that was still connected. It was called the Earthquake Cake, and all that cut stuff was the fault line breaking. Jeff was born in California, and if you don't know, there's a good many earthquakes in that state. We drove up to a little restaurant/bakery/bagel shop place saying Bronx Bagels, and we secured a 11 seat table, well, a lot of tables. Their friend Parker worked there, so she was nice to us for the whole visit. Olivia and I got the cake, which was in a glass container thing which stands up on a single leg, and the forks, plates and napkins. We got a seat in the very back, with many a table. When everyone got there, the kids were on one side and the adults on the other. I had Olivia on my left, Sophie on my right, and Rebecca behind Sophie, Caroline and Madalyn behind Olivia. It was a good meal, most everyone having bagels or breakfast foods of some kinds. I had a raisin cinnamon bagel. We talked about Uncle Jeff, his favorite birthday, all the times we've spent together, the trip, our favorite places, wacky and fun places, and the history of the place we were at. It was fun.
In between the courses, Jeff got a present, some from the girls (like Olivia's cute poem) and one from Pop and MaPoc (cool jacket) and a WOWEE speaker from Mom, Dad and us. It, in it's little phone sized form, can replace five large speakers. At the end of the meal Jeff blew out the candles to the cake, and everyone dug in. It was a pretty good cake. Tami made it. She's an awesome cook.
After the meal we left, paying. Uncle Jeff and Aunt Tami went in a car, leaving for the lake (they were going to spend the day alone at their lake) and we said goodbye to them. Olivia, Caroline, Madalyn and Sophie went off in Caroline's car. We weren't going to see them again that day, because of us going to Libby and May's cheerleading. Saying goodbye to them, Ma Poc, Mom and Rebecca went in Mom's car, and I went with Pop in the sedan. On the drive over to Lampert High School, we talked about soap box derbies, school, and other things. I had a good talk with my grandpa that day. We got on roads that Andy had told Pop to go on, looking for signs and turns and traffic. We passed by a large school that was nice and pretty, not going into the parking lot it had. We thought it to be Lampert High School, and so went into Sharon Elementary's area and went down into another entrance, where a lot of school buses were stationed. It said buses entry only, but Pop rode on in this direction. We went down a hill and saw barbed wire and school buses behind those fences, and went on. "Pop, I don't think we're allowed to be he..."
"It'll be okay." We went past these buses into a back parking lot, looking around. We saw no entrance to the front, and we KNEW this was Lampert High School now because we saw signs and other things, like stickers on cars, that determined where we were. We saw a tennis court and a little basketball court, and saw the front parking lot, but no way to get to it. Defeated, we went back the way we came, back on the road, into the long lines of downhill cars. We called Mom and asked their position, and we parked right in front of the gym in a good parking lot. She said she saw our car and that she was just a little bit behind. I looked out the window and saw a waving arm coming out of a silver suburban. "They see us," I said to Pop. "And I see them." After a while of sitting, I told Pop and Mom (on the phone) that I was going inside to go to the restroom. Mom had prior told us that Andy was going to call them when he was there. I started to go in. Mom told me to wait for Rebecca, she needed to go also. By this time I was on a big deck that had stairs on the left and a ramp on the left. The deck overlooked the parking lot. I saw Rebecca come out and run over, looking to see if it's okay to pass. She ran over as I opened the door for ladies with a lot of stuff in their hands, some weird decoration. Rebecca didn't see me and so went by the bottom entrance, where there was a door and an area of the ceiling cut apart. I saw her. "Rebecca!" I yelled/whispered. "Up here." She came up, and we walked in.
There was a concession stand and a big lobby with a hallway going back. We walked in close to a table with people seated at it, telling a man he had to pay to get in. Well, I didn't want to pay to go to the restroom, and had no money anyway, so we slowly crept past the people, trying to be under the radar. Would it be like the guy at Crazy Horse, who let me go without money to go to the restroom at the museum? Or would it be like the ridiculous scary lady on a pier in Maine who wouldn't let me go to the restroom without paying 25 cents? I had no way of knowing. They didn't notice us though. A beige shirted guy with a hat and gun in holster looked at us with eagle eyes though...and then lost interest. Rebecca went to a restroom, and I went to the men's. It was nice actually. It was all busy in the lobby though, with pretty girls taking pictures in their pony tails, ribbons, and little skirts. Cute, I guess, but why do they even call this a sport? Oh well. After going to the bathroom we went back outside and I walked Rebecca to the car. I said hello to MaPoc and got my book, the Grimm Fairy Tales. I went back to the sedan and talked to him for a while, before he took a little nap. We waited for May, Libby and Leah and Andy to come. I read the Frog Prince and a new others. It seemed we were to sit here all day...
May, in a blue cheerleader outfit, ran with Libby and a few other girls. Lia trudged behind. "POP! IT'S THEM!" He woke up and honked. They all looked at us and Lia came over, said hi, and said they were late and had to go. They ran on. I went over to Mom's car and told her, and we all got out, then seeing Uncle Andy and Will, with will having a big squishy ball. I said hello and hugged, and then we went up to the deck. We walked in and got tickets, then putting on bracelets. We talked as we waited for people to come back for the restroom. We then went through the doors behind the table, and found ourselves in a huge auditorium with a balcony going around the whole room, bustling withe people looking over at the court, which had bleachers on all sides also. In the middle and behind of all this was a giant sign telling about the societies and stuff in the program, and a blue mat over the basketball court. A team was performing a routine before some judges, and I must say they were pretty bad. They were 1st and 2nd graders, who what can you expect. There was so much noise in that place, conversations being made, things happening, arguments put into play. There were people looking at the stage, people eating, people on their electronic devices, people reading, people doing most everything imaginable, even picking their nose. It was such a hust-bustle of voices, thoughts, sounds, movements, like New York City. When I would later come out, and go into the car and hear nothing but the sound of the car on the road and the wind, you can't even imagine how happy and content I was. I like noise, but I don't like THAT much noise. I looked around, seeing a store with T-shirts and souvenirs, some kids playing, and a kid against a wall reading Harry Potter. I saw Uncle Andy, and we all stood overlooking the teams, the judges and the other things in the room. There was a T.V. on the right corner of the back where a T.V. told what team it was, and a stage in the other corner was filled with instruments. There was sound and speaker equipment there too, making all kinds of new pop sensation songs, like Miley Cirus or Justin Bieber or something. It was so loud, it's indescribable unless your there... or you've seen New York City.
We saw a few teams as we all stayed there, and they were a little good, doing tumbling and funny moves. Leah secured a piece of paper which had the names and times for teams to go on. We waited through a lot on the balcony before securing a seat on the right side of the mat, being by stairs and an exit. We sat down, but Rebecca and Mom remained on the balcony, Mom taking pictures and Rebecca just leaning up against it. Andy and Leah moved away to different places at intervals, but I got to talk to MaPoc and Will a lot. I talked to MaPoc about the old days of cheerleading, and I read a Grimm to Will about a goat with seven children who are attacked by a wolf. Kind of like little red riding hood, but changed a little. I talked to Aunt Lia about the Grimm's too. They mostly involve an evil witch, a lady and man, and somebody gets married and lives happily ever in most all of them. There were only a few sad endings. It was a little hard to read, as we were in a gym full of people, but I tried as best as I could to read aloud to Will. Good little funny teams passed, with their facial expressions, dancing, tumbling and other things, and then the bigger dogs came, making their peers go up on top of them and catching them, and doing many many cartwheels. We then found out that May was to be on three acts later, and so counted down the few left. In one of the teams, a purple one, was an actual boy, a guy with a mohawk and is little with brown hair. Crazy right? A boy in cheerleading, which is usually a boy sport. Weird. Oh well, whatever pleases him and he likes is fine with me. I don't hate cheerleading, I just think it can be annoying sometimes and is girly. Also, they practice for a month or two on a two-minute routine, and then don't win. Doesn't seem worth it does it. They put all the make-up on, all the lipstic, all the techniques they practice for... for what, a fun time? A pat on the back from a parent? A good try T-shirt? F or the one team out of all 27 that gets the trophy, the title, and the proclamation, it is worth it. Would it be worth it for Libby and May, that's the question...
"GIVE IT UP FOR, EAST SIDE EAGLES!" a voice boomed over the microphone. We were already on the floor in front and to the right of the mat, being in the V.I.P. spot you can be in if your team is up. We had got all ready, and Mom on the balcony did too. MaPoc and Pop stayed in their seats, but Leah, Andy, Will, their friend Coleman(met him before at b-day party, nice 13 year old brown haired guy, tall) , Rebecca and I were there. That really loud sentence was the first thing we heard before the girls came in. We saw them in all their skirts, with all the glitter, lipstick and bows and stuff, behind the curtain, about to run. Then they did. They ran full pace and did dance moves and cartwheels and all that other stuff on the way, doing some pretty cool formations and moves. They looked down at the floor, looking at their white tennis shoes, as the music went off and there was an eerie silence in the room. Then it started. THEY... started.
Imagine pretty 4th grade girls in all that cheerleader garb, making crosses, zig zag lines, cartwheels, lifting people up in what they call a basket (people gathered around holding people up with hands, holding feet), and doing facial expressions, really cool dance moves, and cute tricks. May was an awesome and amazing cartwheeler, she was like a spinning wheel on a Dodge Challenger.(Dad's a car dealership owner, can't help making automotive similes) She was awesome, and also made splits when she landed. They're routine was unreal, amazing, and then... they made a fall. And that fall, may of cost them their victory.
TO BE CONTINUED......!
(I know this is long and there's plenty more to come, so, look for Sports Saturday with a Stereo Part Two after this. Goodbye for now.)
Hi, Allison from church. I wanted to say, that with all you post, you could write a novel with this! Over 900 pages, I bet, with the posts to come included. I try to post long things, but they always come out so short. I try something like this on our class blog, and my teacher might give me a golden medal and sayI won the class olympics! Anyways, see you, Allison
