August 2011 Big Trip Re-cap and Highlights
8/1 – Left Cape Cod, visited Bourne, Cape Cod and drove through New Hampshire before reaching Bayley’s Campground in Saco, Maine.
8/2 - Kennebunk Port, Maine
8/3 – Orchard Beach, The Pier and The Sensational Juggling Show called “Two”
8/4 – LL Bean Flagship Store in Freeport, Maine
8/5 – Bought Andrew’s new bike in Portland, ME and went for a ride on a scenic bike trail near the beautiful marsh in Maine.
8/6 – Celebrated Andrew’s birthday with a birthday mea, a trip to a bookstore and the movie Captain America.
8/7 – Cleaned and organized the RV
8/8 – Drove up the coast of Maine to Bar Harbor and set-up camp at Narrows Too Campground with a spectacular ocean view.
8/9 – Went to Acadia National Park and drove up Cadillac Mountain.
8/10 – Wandered up the coast of Maine on US 1. Explored the countryside.
8/11 – Took our bikes to Acadia National Park and rode on a Carriage Road developed by the Rockefellers and donated to the Park. Andrew ate lobster for the first time.
8/12 – Whale Watching off the coast of Maine.
8/13 – Enjoyed the Narrows Too Campground and played putt putt.
8/14 – Enjoyed our last day in Maine by attending church and eating lobster at the Chart House.
8/15 – Left Maine and ended up in a beautiful campground in the mountains in Vermont called Sugar Ridge. We began homeschooling.
8/16 – Went on a Cabot Cheese Factory Tour and a Ben & Jerry’s Factory Tour.
8/17 – Drove up Mount Washington in New Hampshire on Auto Road.
8/18 – Left Vermont and went through New Hampshire before arriving in Southwick, Massachusetts at The Sodom Mountain Campground.
8/19 – Went to Springfield, Ma to The Science Museum and The Dr. Seuss Memorial Sculpture Garden.
8/20 – Toured the Springfield Amory and The Mark Twain House.
8/21 – Longest Drive Ever! We left Massachusetts and drove through Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. We landed in the
8/22 – Night Tour to all the Monuments in DC
8/23 – Historic Earthquake in DC. Made a visit to Arlington National Cemetery, The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and The Marine Parade on the filed in front of Iwo Jima Statue. We saw the magnificent Marine Silent Drill Team.
8/24 – Mt. Vernon.
8/25 – National Air and Space Museum
8/26 – Drive to VA to flee Irene. We settle in at Candy Hill RV Park in Winchester, VA.
8/27 – Patsy Cline House, Shenandoah Valley, clothes shop, haircuts
8/28 – Skyline Drive, Luray Caverns, Becky’s Birthday Dinner
8/29 – Clean-up Day, laundry mat, Campfire, Red Box Movies
8/30 – Drive back to DC and Cherry Hill Park – The closest park to DC. Grocery Shop and Swimming Pool.
8/31 – Holocaust Museum, War Memorials and MLK Memorial
